My Thoughts: I have been completely fascinated by this book, ever since I first opened the package.  The Illustrated Cook’s Book of Ingredients is the ultimate encyclopedia of food options that is a must have for every kitchen!  Since I began my quest of learning healthy home cooking, I have learned so much through researching online – but this book goes even further than that with such detail about every type of ingredient you can think of.  For example:  The fish section shows a picture of each type of fish, ways that it is best cooked and every detail about the skin, meat, bones etc… right down to which parts are pointy, sharp or dangerous.  I have kept this book by my side and whenever I have a few minutes, I pour over another few pages.    I have passed over many types of veggies at Whole Foods because I had no idea what they were or what in the world to do with them.    A look through the vegetable section has given me information on each of these items and ideas on what flavors they best pair with, what to look for and what to avoid in choosing the freshest items, and how to properly store and prepare each variety.  The Illustrated Cook’s Book of Ingredients has  up a whole new group of foods to us that we probably would never have tried, had I not been given the opportunity to review this book!  I highly recommend The Illustrated Cook’s Book of Ingredients and think it would make an amazing gift for the home cook in your life, or anyone that is interested in having  the details of every possible type of food at their fingertips!

  1. What a good idea this is! My brother-in-law is a chef and I’ve had to call him many times & ask him what something else, what it looks like or where they sell it. I’ll have to check this out – great review! sammiejanL40 at aol dot com
