Lately I have been starting to dread family dinners (well also breakfasts and lunches). Why you ask? Three little words…my 3 year old. He makes such a mess eating I just start to shudder when it is time to clean up. Luckily my family had the chance to review Stokke’s Tripp Trapp which has drastically helped to reduce my mess!

My take: I am so very, very happy to report the mealtime is a much happier time for Mommy all because of Stokke’s Tripp Trapp. As a physical therapist I am mentally kicking myself for not realizing that a large part of the reason my 3 year old was making a huge mess was because he wasn’t seated in an optimal position. In order to reach the dinner table he had to sit on his knees throwing his alignment off balance.
The Tripp Trapp came packaged in a great box that was light-weight and very consumer friendly. My father-in-law put my Tripp Trapp together while I was out of town. He is a semi-retired carpenter and he was highly impressed with the quality of the wood and how stable the chair is. The real test came when the 3 year old sat in it. He loves having the ability to push himself towards and away from the table thanks to the plastic gliders. He also loves the restraint system which annoys me since he is old enough not to use it but I think he feels more secure in it since he now has the freedom to push towards and away from the table.
Things I noticed immediately: he was much more comfortable having his feet rest on the lower platform and sitting in a 90-90 position (physical therapist lingo for 90 degrees hip flexion, 90 degrees knee flexion), when pushed under the table I can’t tell it is not a regular chair and I LOVE that. I also love how easy it is to clean- there are no little nooks and crannies where food gets stuck forever. Simply wipe with a wet cloth.
I know the price is high but when you think about how you can use this seat from infancy to adulthood, can be easily used as an extra dinner chair when needed and the quality and craftmanship of this chair it is justified.
