Good Boy Roy Review, Discount & Giveaway

Today I am lucky enough to get to share someone very special with you. Actually, a couple of someone’s… I am excited to share a new company with you that has a great line fun line of t-shirts and the special people that are behind Good Boy Roy.
First about the company: Good Boy Roy is a new line of t-shirts (est.2010) designed, created and drawn by 15 year old Zack. The GBR line of tshirts are fun, humorous, unique and reflect some every day events many kids may do. Good Boy Roy is a fun kid, a good kid, but may do some mischevious things every now and then. The t-shirts and characters are an extension of the love of drawing and cartoon design that Zack has always enjoyed. The purpose of Good Boy Roy is to bring smiles, giggles and laughter to those that see and wear the designs and maybe see themselves just a bit in the characters. We hope to expand the line and the name to anything and everything that we can put a design and logo on!
Now about the boy: Zack is 15 and has always loved to draw. He raced BMX bikes at one time and played baseball most of his life. Zack has always been funny, silly and loves to do impersonations. He is like most kids but has some challenges that he has struggled with growing up, like OCD and ADD, then a strep infection which is believed to have caused him to develop Tourettes and Tics (it’s called PANDAS). This can all make things pretty chaotic. Zack’s drawing usually helped him calm down, was comforting to him and is something he has always been proud of. He is a huge sports fan, his dad is from Georgia so he is a HUGE DAWG fan !!! He has one sister and 4 dogs. Zack will be in the 10th grade this year 2010/2011.*
The other driving force behind Good Boy Roy: Most of us here are Mom’s or Dad’s or someday hope to be… and we know how much we worry about our kids. What happens when we find out that our worst fears come true and we find out that our child has challenges. Challenges that will make life difficult sometimes… challenges that make our child feel different… challenges that we would give anything in the world to make go away? Fortunately most of us will not have to face these things directly, but some of us will and I hope that we will meet these challenges with courage and determination just like Zack’s Mom, Kim has done. Kim recognized the talent that Zack has and knowing that using his talent was comforting to him decided to surprise him with a shirt printed with Zack’s first character “Good Boy Roy” on it. He loved it, other people loved it and a dream was born. Maybe they found a way that would allow Zack the ability to use his talent and evolve into a way that will support him after he is done with school. A way for him to achieve not only a successful life, but a fulfilling one as well. What more could someone want for their child?
I received a copy of a book that Kim wrote to help her child and others that may struggle with the same feelings Zack has. Her book really touched me. I think partly because of my years of working in the mental health industry and seeing first hand how these types of diagnosis’s effect young adults. Many of whom do not have the parental support that Kim is committed to providing. I wish some of the adults that live in our residential facilities had been able to have this same kind of support. I wanted to share one of my favorite paragraphs from her book with you:
Sometimes being a kid is hard, especially when you are different, whether you look different, act different or talk different. Mom says that the world is made up of all kinds of different people because that is what makes the world an interesting place. Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same? But just because you may be different or feel different doesn’t mean you can’t have fun or don’t enjoy playing with friends or learning new things. You are great just how you are.
So just remember…. No one is perfect and you are a great kid.
**Quote from Kim’s book No One is Perfect and YOU are a Great Kid
We waited anxiously for our package, and we didn’t have to wait long because in just a couple of days the girls came running from the mailbox, waiving the package in the air. Inside was a “Laughing Lizzy” shirt for Hanna and a “Z Man” shirt for my grandson (see Rylee modeling it for me below)! Hanna put on the shirt immediately and Rylee quickly pronounced it too small for her and that she would have to give it to her. Hanna said no way if it was too small after I washed it, this was one to save for her own kids. That made me smile, because although we do have a box of things saved for her kids, they are all infant things. The fact that this shirt was considered worthy of the “baby box” let me know just how much she likes it! When Kim asked me if the shirt fit, I told her that it was fine for now she quickly sent me another in a bigger size – a brand new design that wasn’t even on their site yet! Hanna loves it enough to let Rylee have “Laughing Lizzy”!

The characters are awesome! There are several designs that include the characters that Zack has created so far. Good Boy Roy is the original character created as a sort of alter ego of Zack. Next there is Z Man, Crazy Timmy, Handsome Hen, Hippie Heather, Laughing Lizzy and Rocker Rick. I am wondering if Zack could come up with a “Rambling Rylee” design – for the one that never stops talking enjoys talking A LOT… something with about 20 conversation bubbles over her head. Zack can also do custom designs for sports teams (check out Hanna’s shirt with the volleyball shirt that Zack designed for his sister), special events and things like family reunions – how fun would that be!?!
My Thoughts: I think Zack is extremely talented and his designs are “cool” enough for kids of all ages to find appealing. When I asked Hanna about her opinion she said “Awesome-est shirts ever!” and when I asked Rylee she spread out her hands and let out a big “MWAAA HAAAA HAAA HAA!!!” in full Lizzy style. I absolutely will recommend Good Boy Roy without hesitation and I sincerely hope to see them become very successful. Move over “Happy Bunny” and “Life is Good” because Good Boy Roy is on the way!
