Fresh Episodes Emphasize Science-Based Curriculum

Plus Hilarious Segments with Celebrities including Amy Poehler, Will.i.am, Jude Law, Jennifer Garner, Katy Perry, LaDainian Tomlinson and Wanda Sykes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (New York) – On the heels of its impressive ratings growth and incredible eight Emmy wins for its landmark 40th anniversary season, Sesame Street is back with more of what you love for season 41. Premiering September 27 on PBS KIDS (check local listings) and produced by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization, the new season of the program continues to address the immediate needs of preschoolers with an emphasis on science education. Heading into the second term of its two-year curriculum, season 41 emphasizes everyday science investigation and encourages kids to ask specific questions and get excited about how the world works. Additionally, everybody’s favorite furry and blue superhero gets his own new segment in Sesame Street’s block format, “Super Grover 2.0.”

In six new six-minute segments, Grover is coming to the rescue in “Super Grover 2.0.” As he observes, questions, investigates and reports, our hero literally stumbles across solutions to problems all across the planet. “Super Grover 2.0” is a continuation of this season’s curriculum, science investigation, allowing young children to become active participants in the processes of scientific inquiry as they make observations, formulate questions, and investigate answers. Encouraging children to explore the fascinating worlds of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is what connects Sesame Street’s 41^st season with the current national focus on these STEM concepts.

“Children are naturally inquisitive – they are always questioning and analyzing the world around them,” says Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, Vice President of Education and Research, Sesame Workshop. “The goal of the curriculum is to introduce young children to vocabulary and process skills that are integral in developing scientific reasoning abilities. Having our characters model these skills, especially ‘Super Grover 2.0,’ is a perfect age-appropriate way to engage children while they learn science concepts and build knowledge about how the world around them works.”

Science is featured throughout the new season in street stories, animations and new live action films. In a street story, Elmo and his friends learn all about the concept “camouflage” from Camouflage Carla, played by Kyra Sedgwick, while they look for six things around Sesame Street that blend into the scenery. In three newly commissioned films with NASA, kids will be exploring the wonders of space as an astronaut in orbit at the International Space Station presents letter and number of the day segments.

“We’re really excited that our audience, both children and their caregivers, have responded in such a positive way to last season’s changes,” commented Carol-Lynn Parente, Executive Producer, Sesame Street. “This year, we’re building on that success with a distinctive curriculum that will help unleash children’s innate feelings of awe and wonder to the scientific world and will allow them to be active participants in the learning process.”

In true Sesame Street fashion, this season will feature an exciting roster of celebrities and original parodies. Featured celebrities include: Academy Award-nominated actor, Jude Law; Golden Globe Award-winning actors Colin Farrell, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman; Emmy Award-winning comedian Wanda Sykes; NFL superstars Reggie Bush and LaDainian Tomlinson; Grammy Award-winning artists Will.i.am, Usher and Michael McKean; pop star Katy Perry; American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi; Modern Family’s Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell; Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo; Parks & Recreation’s Amy Poehler; rap and TV star Rev Run; The Closer’s Kyra Sedgwick; Actors Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Romijn, Zoe Saldana, Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Chris O’Donnell, Jim Parsons, Rachel Griffiths, Anna Faris, Terrence Howard; The View’s Sherri Shepherd; Today Show’s Natalie Morales; The Insider’s Samantha Harris; and Food Network star Alton Brown.

Parodies include: “True Mud,” a play on the popular HBO series, True Blood; “The Furry Four,” a humorous take on The Fantastic Four; “Ironing Monster,” a parody of the comic book superhero Iron Man; “The Closer,” a parody of the television show The Closer; and “A Team,” a parody of the television show The A-Team with Ryan Reynolds as big ‘A.’

Additionally the 41st season will feature new original animations. “Pinball Animation Stop Motion,” from Florence Animation, was the winner of the worldwide competition, Aniboom Awards 4 Sesame Street, sponsored earlier this year by Sesame Workshop and Aniboom. Finally, Sesame Street collaborated with renowned children’s author, Todd Parr, on a new film about childhood fears.

Season 41 of Sesame Street is funded in part by a grant through the Public Broadcasting Service and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and public television viewers. Are We There Yet? Sneak Peak!

Have you been watching “Are We There Yet?” on TBS? It’s a new show from director, movie star; Ice Cube. It basically about a family blending together and their daily ups, downs, funnies and just real life scenarios.

If you do watch it then you know the lead charater is no stranger to the dad role, as he played the very popular dad in “Everybody Hates Chris”. Yep, actor Terry Crews is back again. He always brings the laughs, and once again he doesnt let us down in Are We There Yet?

Now as much as i do like the show, i would like less of some of the political laughs (Soccer Episode, wife {played by Essence Atkins} seems to drop them often). I think some of the reason we like to watch these comedies is to gear away from reality sometimes, so to be reminded in some of the cracks, eh, it can go lol. At the same time, some are funny and do make me laugh, just a little note to Mr. Cube, don’t over do it.

Over all, this comedy can be an almost personal reflection for some families who come from 2 different backgrounds and are trying to make it work. Moms who spy on daughters, sons who love hot soccer stars, and dads, well just wanting to be called dad. Its a funny ride, so hang on, grab your family snuggi and tune in…

Jenny Craig spokesperson Nicole Sullivan running the Culver City 5K with her husband and two sons (via strollers) this past Sunday! This was Nicole’s first 5K ever, and she was ready to tackle the challenge after losing 35 lbs on Jenny Craig. It seems like she’s following in the footsteps of our Boston Marathon runner Miss Valerie Bertinelli!

Nicole Sullivan followed the food-body-mind principles of Jenny Craig by meeting with her consultant weekly, following a nutritional balanced menu and gradually increasing her activity over the course of four months from walking 1-2 times a week up to 4-5 times a week for 45 minutes. Nicole lost 35 lbs on the Jenny Craig program in 16 weeks* by adapting portion control and walking. After she hit her goal weight of 124 lbs, Nicole wanted to get toned and worked with trainer once or twice a week for four weeks to firm up by incorporating mom-friendly traditional exercises in her home such as squats, lunges, push ups and sit ups.

Since the end of September 2009, Sullivan has served as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig, chronicling her “baby-weight loss” journey through a series of video and written blogs with a goal to lose 35 pounds. Her reveal will be shown in a set of nationally-televised commercials this spring and summer.

How amazing would it be to to run a 5K? This is really a great accomplishment for any woman who is struggling to lose weight. To lose 35 lbs and then go for a 5k is a true accomplishment in my eyes. Her losing that much in only 16 weeks really could give us hope that it can be done. I am attaching photo’s below. Doesn’t Nicole Sullivan look great? The last picture is by far my favorite.

Valerie Bertinelli in a new TV series tonight, Hot in Cleveland

A new series is starting tonight. Have you heard of Hot In Cleveland? I know I did not hear about it till just a little bit ago but it looks like it is going to be really funny. It stars Valerie Bertinelli as Melanie Moretti, Betty White as Elka Ostrovsky, Jane Leeves as Joy Scroggs and Wendie Malick as Victoria Chase. I know I really love all the women who are starring in this series, don’t you?

Hot in Cleveland revolves around three fabulous L.A. women of a certain age who are best friends (Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick). Their lives are changed forever when their plane — headed to Paris for a girls-only celebration — unexpectedly lands in Cleveland and they soon rediscover themselves in a new ‘promised land’. Loving their new home, the women find themselves living under one roof and battling the sassy caretaker (Betty White) of the property they have rented.

This new fun series is starting tonight, June 16th at 10pm eastern/9pm central. If you are at home and love new series be sure to check it out. I know I will.

Spotted: Top R&B artist and Grammy Award Winner Usher Raymond did some shopping at The Children’s Place store in Union Square yesterday evening. He arrived at the store around 8 pm with a small group of people. He picked out some newborn and baby boy clothes.

Usher is the latest on the list of celebrities who have shopped the store. Others include Saturday Night Saturday Night Live’s Rachel Dratch, Bethenny Frankel of The Real Housewives of New York and her new show Bethenny Getting Married and The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad.
