Silikids: Siliskin Toddler Glass Review & Giveaway

1win

Now that my 19 month old is getting older he wants to try to do things the big kid way…case in point, drink from a big boy cup.  The little plastic cups won’t do, oh no he wants to drink from a glass cup just like mommy.  Silikids graciously let me review the Siliskin Glass.  First a little about Siliskids:

It began in 2006 as a labor of love for two friends and mothers. With growing concerns about toxic materials in children’s products, Silikids was born; a children’s accessory company dedicated to making safe, clean and hygienic products out of SILICONE. As mothers, they noticed that many products for babies were already made of silicone;
bottle nipples, pacifiers, etc. Research confirmed that silicone was indeed a magnificent material for children due to its non-porous nature, where no bacteria could hide; its high resistance to temperatures making it easy to boil and sterilize, and its soft, pliable quality lends itself to multiple uses.and promote reuse. Packaging is minimal, and silicone can be recycled at specific recycling centers. Send your Silikids products back to us and we’ll have it recycled for you!

Siliskin Glass:

The stylish 6 oz. Siliskin Glass is perfect for toddlers learning to use a big kid’s glass.  The Siliskin Glassis BPA-free, and made from 100 percent food grade silicone.  Siliskin helps prevent slipping and adds extra protection to the glass inside.  Glass is the cleanest option for drinking and it is reusable and recyclable.  The Siliskin is hypo-allergenic, has no open pores to harbor bacteria, is dishwasher safe, and can be boiled to sterilize.  Two simple ideas, glass and silicone, have come together to make the perfect drink ware better for your family and the environment. Siliskin glass is available in Aqua and Lime (Available as of November: White and Purple).  Retail price is $7.95.

My take:  The Siliskin Glass is perfect for little fingers.  I have always hesitated to give in and let my 19th month old use a glass drinking cup in fear that I would find him standing in the midst of broken glass shards.  I am happy to report that the siliskin has been dropped several times and has not broken.  The silicone makes it easier for his little fingers to hold yet is easy enough for me to take off so I can wash the glass.  I love that I can also place the silicone covering in the dishwasher to clean.
