Omaha Steaks very generously sent me a box of four of their signature filet mignons to review. I’ve heard good things about Omaha in the past, but never had the opportunity to try them out myself until now. I came home one day last week to a cooler nicely packaged on my doorstep so I hurriedly took it inside to unwrap the treasure inside.

The steaks had been sitting on my front step during one of the hottest days we had this year but they were still frozen when I took them out of the cooler! They were neatly packaged in an Omaha Steak box which was packed in the cooler with a chunk of dry ice to keep it frozen for who knows how long on my front step. Omaha refers to this packaging as “mini-deep freeze” packaging, and I can attest to the fact that the steaks were perfectly frozen when I opened them.

I knew right away what I’d save these babies for – my mom’s birthday! I visited my parents home last weekend and took the steaks with me. Filets are one of my mom’s favorite steaks, so you can imagine the excitement when she saw that I’d not only brought her steaks, but Omaha filets! We grilled them up and…pause for the “ooohs” and “aaaahs”… they were so tasty!  I think it may be a new requirement to bring my mother Omaha Steaks for her birthday every year because it will be hard to outdo myself in the coming years!
