9 Places You Can Go Bass Fishing at Walt Disney World

Last month, my family and I had the privilege of being invited to Disney World Flordia for a bass fishing excursion. If your jaw dropped to the floor and you are in complete puzzlement, you are not alone. We had no idea that you could fish on property!

Disney World has partnered up with TakeMeFishing.org, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase participation in recreational angling and boating, thereby protecting and restoring the nation’s aquatic natural resources.

RBFF provides the tools to help people get started. RBFF’s digital assets, TakeMeFishing.org and VamosAPescar.org, are the most comprehensive fishing and boating websites nationwide and are the key destinations for individuals to learn, plan and equip for a day on the water.

You may be thinking you know everything there is to know about fishing. So why not just jump on a boat and take a tour yourself. Well, I am sure we all felt or thought that. However, each boat has an extremely knowledgeable guided who will help with your catch-and-release outings. They will let you experience bass fishing at its finest—all year round too! Whether you’re a seasoned sportsman or an amateur angler, a guided fishing excursion is fun for guests of all ages.

You can choose from 2 Guided Bass Fishing Excursions, which includes a 21-foot Tracker pontoon boat that can accommodate up to 5 Guests, and Bass Nitro Fishing, which features a tournament-style Nitro Bass boat for one or 2 people. We had the pontoon boat which was easy to spread out on and was a nice calm ride. Both boat types do offer a 2-hour and 4-hour excursions, and if available, an extra hour may be added in person at the Marina. Solo anglers may book an afternoon excursion at a reduced rate.

You don’t even need to bring anything with you. Your experienced guide will have a rod & reel for everyone, tackle, artificial and live bait, drinks and snacks, and you get a 1 year Bass Anglers Sportsman Society membership which includes 11 issues of Bassmaster Magazine.

So where are these Walt Disney World Resort fishing excursions? Venture out on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon, skim across Village Lake or cruise Crescent Lake and World Showcase Lagoon.

Let me explain why this was such a memorable and special adventure. Between the ages of 4 & 8, I remember my mom and I living along the eastern coast. Florida, Georiga, and South Carolina. We lived and breathed the beach and fishing. My mom stood me on a dock at the age of 5 and taught me how to throw a shrimp net. I will never forget the taste of salt water on a net and the fun gatherings we had after a big catch.

Fast forward to meeting my husband (a long time ago), we didn’t “date”. We fished! That was our favorite thing to do was take some hours from our day and do a little fishing. It never stopped when we had kids, it just made it more fun. Teaching a little one to cast, reel and even bait the hook takes some patience, I will admit that, but it’s also fun. Now that our girls are nearly teens, they know all about the game, and they can play it well! On our boat, we caught 24 bass in a matter of 2 hours!

We may know a few things about our favorite summer pastime, but we learned a whole lot as well. I had never fished with live bait before, and our guide taught us how to properly hook a feeder fish, why you don’t put your hook in the eyes of the pole, and taught me how to use my 1st spinner reel! (I’ve always used the push button type!).

We are firm believers in having fun outdoors, just as much as we like our favorite tv shows. But there has to be a balance. If you are wanting to take your family away from the electronics, check into a magical experience with Walt Disney World & TakeMeFishing. Spend a day relaxing on a boat, catching some fish, and the next day at one of the parks. It’s a win-win since you can stay at any of the on-property hotels to experience these. No extra driving, or luggage.

This trip was by far our absolute favorite and the most stress-free, family approved getaways. We are very happy TakeMeFishing & Disney partnered up and are helping showcase a pastime that any age, any nationality/race/culture/etc can enjoy. Take a look at some of our photos then join in on social media with the hashtag #FirstCatch.
