I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Welch’s. I received product samples to facilitate my review, a gift code to giveaway, and a promotional item as a thank you for participating
I was asked recently by Welch’s what family time meant to me. Before I had kids I would have immediately answered “any time spent with family”, but now that I have three young children I would answer it quite differently. Yes I still agree that family time is any time spent with family but I also know think it is time spent doing things for your family. Take for instance school- my 5 year old just started kindergarten and my 7 year old is in second grade. I am definitely learning to multi-task and prepare things in advance because I simply don’t want to have to work when I can play and spend personal time with my children.
The rule in our house is that the boys have to eat school lunch at least twice a week and then I will make them a lunch for the rest of the week. Hands down their absolute favorite sandwich is peanut butter and jelly which I happily make using Welch’s Concord Grape Jelly.
I know taking the time and effort to make their lunch three times a week means something to them. I have also started putting silly notes and faces in their lunchboxes to help bring a little bit of home to school. My five year old always repeats me and says “made with love” when I hand him his lunch bag for the day.
Another favorite family time for me is snack time after homework. Again I have it ready to go before they come home so I can sit and talk to them about their day. It is amazing how much you can find out about their school day during snack break. If I ask how school went during the car ride home I get “it was OK”. If I casually ask questions during snack break I get full sentences with tons of detail. Drinking juice is a big deal in our house since the majority of meals are served with milk. Serving snack with the individual bottle of Welch’s Grape Juice always brings a big smile.
So in conclusion, for me family time also means all the minutes I spend preparing items for my children, whether it is food, crafts or packing for an out of town visit. All of these preparations allow me to spend more quality time with my kids when they are with me.
