Having a 4 year old at home 3 days a week means lots of “help” with all of my tasks. There are times that he drags a kitchen chair over to help and I can’t help but cringe each time the chair wobbles as he shifts around. This month for the Guidecraft Educators I was able to review the High Rise Step-Up.
Constructed of birch plywood, this sturdy step stool is designed for home areas that are a little harder to reach. Great for a kitchen, playroom or bathroom. Builds confident climbing skills. Features hand holds to assist in climbing up and down, side panels and textured, non-slip stair treads. Safely supports up to 125 lbs.

Mom perspective- This step-up was easy to put together (I completed the assembly by myself at 33 weeks pregnant). The materials are durable, easy to wipe stains and spills and most importantly to me has non-slip stair treads. I breathe a little easier watching the 4 year old scramble up and down these steps to help aid with my tasks. I love the front panel which makes him (and me) feel more secure. We have used this step-up in the kitchen, the bathroom and love it!

Physical therapist perspective: Motor coordination can be easily practiced with this high rise step-up. The handles are wide and easy to grasp, the stairs are brightly colored, textured and have non-slip treads which help aid in depth perception, proper foot placement and use of upper body to help aid in ascension of stairs. Children who experience sensory issues will feel more secure in this step-up with 3 sides well-protected.
