Summer Infant Prodigy Travel System Review & Giveaway

I remember buying my original travel system 7 years ago when expecting the birth of my first child….little did I know 7 years later I would need to go shopping again for the third child!  One of the most crucial items I need when toting around an infant is a travel system (infant car seat which is compatible to a stroller) and boy did I ever have my homework cut out for me.

After hours of searching I found a travel system that surpassed all of my needs…the Summer Infant Prodigy Travel System.

The Prodigy™ Travel System features the one-of-a-kind SmartScreen technology guiding parents through a simple three-step car seat base installation process. The unique Belt Tightening System allows for an easy and secure installation and the innovative SafeGuard 1-Adjust harness system ensures a perfect fit for your baby every ride. Parents no longer need to climb into the car and struggle to install the base. The Prodigy™ stroller accommodates children up to 50lbs and features a 3-position handle to accommodate all heights, a parent-assist tray with two cup holders and a covered compartment and a fully-retractable canopy with a clear-view window to let parents see their child.

  • SafeGuard 1-Adjust harness system automatic harness height adjustment allows for a fast and snug fit every time. No need to re-thread the straps.
  • Summer Infant Prodigy™ Infant Car Seat Base features unique SmartScreen technology, ensuring a proper installation of the car seat every ride.
  • The easy-to-use, Belt Tightening System firmly fastens the base to car and the SmartScreen technology lets you know when you’ve achieved the appropriate tension.
  • Removable, newborn body and head support cradles baby in comfort
  • Rear facing only – 4 to 32 lbs
  • The stroller will fit children up to 50 lbs and features a retractable canopy with a clear-view window, one-step rear brake, one-handed fold and stands upright.

My take:  I just realized I haven’t let you in on a little secret that I have been hoarding around here….we are having a GIRL.  After having 2 of the best boys around I am still a little shell-shocked this final baby will be a girl.  That being said, how could I have not picked the pink travel system!  Here are a couple of pictures of the assembly process my husband so kindly completed for me:

He reported back to me that assembly wasn’t all that difficult and in no time at all I was ready to try out the features.  Looking first at the stroller I was immediately captivated by the large storage compartment found at the bottom of the stroller…it is huge and tilted for easy access.  I also like how the handle is easily adjusted since there is quite a height difference between my husband and I so this feature is quite handy.  The brakes are easy to use as is adjusting the harness.  The colors and fabric of the seat are striking and durable and there is a parent tray for easy storage of keys.  The child’s tray swings away with a touch of a button.

Fitting the infant car seat onto the stroller took us a couple of tries but now that I have the method down I can easily transfer the car seat from the car base to the stroller in one efficient movement (same for taking the seat away from the stroller).   The key is to make sure the stroller seat is fully reclined and the stroller material is completely rolled away from the locking mechanism.

As for the infant car base….this is by far the most innovative and favorite feature I have found thus far.  How many times have you read that most infant car seats are improperly positioned in a family’s car?  Well with the Smart Screen Technology found in Summer Infant’s car base that is one problem that is easily solved.  There are 3 basic steps the Smart Screen Technology checks for you to ensure you have a proper fit.  First step- making sure the LATCH connectors are clicked into place.  Second step:  Level- you can change the base angle by pressing the buttons on both sides of the Smart Screen until a smiley face appears.  Third step:  Tighten- you can rotate the belt tightening handle until a smiley face appears.  It is recommended that you use these features at least once a month to ensure that you have a correct fit.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I am impressed with the entire Summer Infant Prodigy Travel System.  Others have been equally impressed as well:  The Prodigy Infant Car Seat received the highest score possible — a 5-star Ease of Use Rating – from the  National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in every category: Evaluation of Labels, Evaluation of Instructions, Securing the Child, and Installation Features.
