Cascadian Farm Organic: Earth Day Giveaway

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

I was offered an opportunity to participate in an Earth Day campaign with Cascadian Farm.  As part of the campaign I was sent a celebration kit that would include “everything I needed to create an all organic Earth Day feast for my loved ones”.  Let me show you what I received in my celebration kit:

I have to admit that while I loved what was included in my package, I did feel a little bit like I was on an unexpected episode of Chopped when I started pulling out the contents of my package.  I am not creative enough to create an all organic Earth Day dinner feast with the products that I received, but I could create a delicious, nutritious breakfast that will kick my family off very well for Earth Day this year.

I have learned over the past year, just how important it is to make sure that our diet is made up of a large portion of organic foods.  I have found out over the past several months that I am not able to properly digest a lot of the preservatives, chemicals and genetically modified foods that make up most of the choices available in the supermarkets today.  The only way for me to avoid these oftentimes hidden ingredients or products is to buy foods labeled organic.

We are subjected to so many toxins on a daily basis and they are bombarding our immune systems… it is no wonder that our life expectancy in the United States lags behind so many other countries.  It’s not enough to be careful about the products that you put on your skin or breathe in, we also need to know what we are putting in our bodies.  We need to know what is in our food supply. You can become an expert on reading labels and researching what is added to our foods and learning what modifications (GMO’s) have been made to our food or if you don’t have time for that – you can simply select foods that are labeled organic.

I have been educating myself about exactly what I have been feeding my family, and let me just say it is enough to scare me into avoiding processed foods, soda, modified corn products, modified soy and even the animal’s that are fed food containing these ingredients.  One of the things that I have found the hardest to adjust to, is the lack of good easy “grab-on-the-go” breakfast products or simple but tasty before school type breakfasts.  Cascadian Farm has come to my rescue in this area!   Not only is the cereal delicious as is (just add Almond or Coconut Milk) but it is also fabulous tossed on some yogurt with a bit of fresh fruit – a great little treat for the kids!

So how does Cascadian Farm fit into my new organic lifestyle?  At the heart of Cascadian Farm is still a real working farm located within the North Cascades Mountain Range. I would like to share a little bit of  information from their site:

“We grow our crops and protect the local ecosystem using sustainable organic methods. Today our fields are producing mostly fresh blueberries, but we also farm organic strawberries, raspberries, hardy kiwis, peppers, corn and pumpkins. We harvest our berries by hand, at the peak of ripeness and flavor, and run a small processing line to sort and pack them. During the summer, our Roadside Stand is open daily — so you can plan a road trip and stop in for a pint of our fresh, seasonal berries or homemade organic ice cream.”

“Today Cascadian Farm has grown beyond our original farm and is recognized as a pioneer in converting conventional farms to organic. We were organic before “organic” was a trend, or even before it was certified by the USDA. From day one, we’ve farmed in a way that preserves the soil, and protects the rivers and streams around us. By working in harmony with the land, we offer products that balance the needs of the environment along with the needs of your nutrition.”

The most important thing from my kids point of view – is does it taste good?  My youngest gave it the big thumbs up!  She especially loved the Blueberry Fruit Spread slathered on some sprouted sesame seed bread – delicious!

This year Earth Day has a bigger meaning for my family.  For us it is about respecting our planet and trying to live in a way that reduces the toxic effects that we have surrounded ourselves with over the past several years.  It is about bringing awareness to those around us of the damage that has been done to our earth and our food.  It is so important for people to realize that our food supply is no longer pure, unless you are seeking out specifically organic foods.  We need to protect our organic products and work towards assuring that they are not contaminated in the future.  This year we will be celebrating the unique beauty of our earth and the natural, healthy products that come directly from nature.
