Why You May Not Win Our Giveaways With A Name Like That…

It’s not up to me. Our Spam protector is just doing it’s job. I fully believe you are “1SexxyMom” or even “2Hot4YourA**” but my spam machine can’t be fooled. It thinks you are  just looking for a free text link. Hence, your entry is now lost in our spam box, and unless we have the time to notice or find it, you have just wasted your time entering a contest you have no chance on winning. In case you think it’s a small problem, we have had 141 valid entry comments in spam solely due to the word “sexy” in the comments or name. (apparently we only attract hot moms, and i would have it no other way) Imagine all the other contests you are entering that are not even telling you its a problem?! It probably would seem simpler to you to take that word out of spam right? I would be shot by the ladies on my team if I even thought of that. We can get upwards of 600+ spam comments in a day with vulgar sex words in them. We will approve any that we find in the spam box when we can of course. This is just to let you know what’s going on if you don’t see your entry.

If you do have a name that suggests you are a 30 something hot mom of 3, please try to be creative in your name such as “se xyMOM” with a space. Or if its a tweet, just leave the tweet URL. You don’t have to be super creative though, even @KissMyKitty means other things besides smooching a cat and her entries can pass my coding…..

I’ve had the same complaints when I’ve hosted giveaways “Where’s my entry?” – um, really you needed xXx in your username and you didn’t think the internet would think it was spam or “other” material. Hello? Crazy people.

  2. LOL… I think it is funny the names some people use!!

    LOL that’s funny

  4. If I can’t tell if it’s legit or spam when it lands in my spam folder it gets permanently deleted. I’m not taking a chance by clicking to find out. End of story!

  5. Hahaha. Great post, Ang!

haha that’s pretty funny, thankfully ive had the same email since i was in 7th grade i would never use a “s e x y” name as my email that’s just dumb

Hysterical! People having such an ability to amuse and baffle at the same time ;)

  9. ellen says:

I havent been sexy in so long that my spam name would automatically have changed itself from XxHotSexyXx to Old_Droopy no worries here :)

Likewise, you want to follow me on twitter and your little profile has vulgarities in it, I’ll block them. Reason being, I don’t want to read those words on my twitter page.

I’m glad so many moms have the self confidence to describe themselves in such a way, but what about self-respect? Am I alone in thinking that you should be saving your s e x y for your hubby and not everyone out there on the internet? And what about your poor, mortified children? (Even if it will be years before they’re mortified, they will be one day to know that you won their Dora DVD for following on twitter as “2Hot4YourA**”.)

P.S. Thanks for the apparent shoutout for EF in your newsletter! :)
