This next review from Guidecraft not only benefited my son but also his entire kindergarten class.

Little Lectern:

The Little Lectern will become the focus of your classroom. Perfect for book reports, presentations and class discussions. Promotes public speaking and group presentation skills. Constructed of walnut-stained birch plywood and solids with baseboard molding. Features pull-out carpeted riser that nests inside the unit when not in use. Adult assembly required. Ages 3+. 18″W x 17″D x 40″H

Retails for $200.

My take:  As soon as I saw this I knew I couldn’t be selfish and keep it all to myself.  I immediately went to my oldest son’s school and offered it to his kindergarten teacher (after my husband and I assembled it of course).

The instructions were easy to follow and each piece was very well protected for the shipping process:

Mom perspective:  As soon as this was built both boys had to try it out.  I was especially pleased with how my shy 5 year old pretended to give a speech.  There was no hand wringing, shifting of feet and body or looking down at the floor.  He simply placed his hands on the lectern and looked me right in the eye to speak.

Teacher perspective:  My mom (retired science teacher of 30 years) immediately said “I would have loved to have this for my classroom”.  The kindergarten teacher reports that she uses the lectern daily as well as the students.  She loves how well-built and attractive it looks.

Physical therapist perspective:  I love how the step allows smaller children to maintain good posture while using this lectern.  They no longer have to stand on their tiptoes to speak.  The lectern is very sturdy and you won’t have the fear of it toppling over.
