Rodelle Vanilla Review and The Rodelle Challenge
Before I get to my fun-filled day of baking using the Rodelle vanilla beans, I want to let you all know about the upcoming Rodelle Challenge! Rodelle (est. 1936) is a company dedicated to providing quality baking ingredients such as vanilla beans, extracts, cocoa powder, spice blends etc. This year marks the second annual Rodelle Challenge where each of us are called to share our best and favorite baking moments on the Rodelle Facebook page. The most creative posts, as chosen by the Rodelle Challenge team, will win. There will be three grand prize winners, with a super sweet prize consisiting of a KitchenAid mixer and a year’s supply of Rodelle baking essentials. There will also be three runners-up who will each win a year’s supply of Rodelle vanilla extract, vanilla beans and dark cocoa powder!
So make some memories and be ready to post them on Rodelle’s Facebook page! The challenge will start on October 1, 2011 and will be open for entries through December 25, 2011. You know you’re going to be in the kitchen baking during the holidays anyhow, so remember these memories (and even take pictures!) then go tell the Rodelle Facebook community about them and you could very well win yourself an awesome prize!
To give me a little teaser about what Rodelle is all about, I was sent two vanilla beans to use in my own baking. It was only recently that I tried real vanilla and now that I have, it’s become a staple in my kitchen so I was very eager to put these beans to the test. In case I haven’t shouted it from the rooftops enough, I’m currently in culinary school studying to become a pastry chef (hence the love of vanilla beans). For months my mom has been asking me for a day she can come visit me and spend a few hours in the kitchen baking with me. When I received the Rodelle vanilla beans in the mail, I knew they would be the perfect addition to a day with my mom. So I called her up, planned a few treats and prepared for the big day.
The few hours we had originally planned ultimately turned into a full day. I planned a cake with multiple steps so that she would have plenty of opportunity to step in and get involved. We made a fresh fruit charlotte – complete with lady fingers, diplomat cream, a lemon cremoux insert as well as a berry insert, topped with lucious berries and some pineapple! We used some of the vanilla bean in the diplomat cream and some in the berry insert. These Rodelle vanilla beans sparked me to finally call my mom to set up this fun, laughter-filled and delicious day! Imagine what memories you can make with your own family!
