Best Western Hotel Review

I originally approached Best Western to see if they would like to help with our stay on the way to Disneyland. They were so nice and gave me a few pointers on some great hotels to stay at on the way. They did send me a $50 gift card to help with a room, but explained each and every Best Western is independently operated and owned.

With only a day to spare i chose not to try and find the owners, but just select one and do the review. We ended up saving it for when we came back. We knew there was a Best Western in Ocean Shores Washington called the Lighthouse Inn. It looked beyond amazing with a fireplace in every room and ocean views. Its even Pet friendly. However it was booked till September.

We decided to visit Tumwater Falls since it was a park and tourist spot, plus dog friendly and a close to home destination. I tried to book online but it said the hotel was full. I am not one to give up so i called right away and sure enough they had one king bed room left. I jumped on it. Now online it said a room started at $79 and the military rate was $76, plus $15 for our dog. That sounded ok to me so far.

The hotel was only 20 mins from our house. It’s right off I5. At first i thought how is this hotel so booked because the parking lot was bare, i mean like desert tumbleweed bare. I walked inside and the lobby was so beautiful. It was very clean and inviting. I figured our room was going to be magnificent.

Our room was ok. I will be honest and say i am less than pleased with this stay. In fact, i would probably never return. The only thing that i liked was it was pet friendly.

Here’s why:

  1. Water damage in the bathroom on the ceiling. Cracked, discolored and peeling
  2. Towels had brown edges and holes
  3. Hot tub was very dirty, not the water, the tub itself had obviously not been cleaned in some time.
  4. We moved the bed from the wall to get my pen that fell and we were so highly disgusted that we were glad we were leaving.
  5. 3 pillows and 2 towels for a family of 4 and a dog??
  6. Fridge was either not plugged in or not working ( i ended up not caring to check.)
  7. No extra blankets or pillows for the couch. We pulled the under blanket off ours for it and used one of the 3 pillows for it.
  8. Says that the staff is Multiligual, but when i asked where our room was, the woman did not know English and showed us the wrong room since i asked for 124 and she took us to 114. Thankfully another lady helped redirected us.

The total for the room with taxes was far more in the end than i would have ever paid for the room. The real positive was that our dog was able to stay with us and that the Tumwater Falls were so close. But for $99, they could spend less money on the lobby and more on getting the rooms fixed up and cleaned with good linens.

Around 6pm we did start seeing many more families come in with pets, so that must be the focal selling point on these rooms.

Good price for the dog, bad for the room. The Best Western in Tumwater Falls gets 2 thumbs way down.

Eww. I don't plan on going there anytime soon. I think some Best Westerns are good and some are not. The one in Auburn where I'm from is up-kept and clean. Sucks that they didn't upkeep their motel. Now I'm sure Marketing and Corporate will hear about it.

I wouldn't go back to that one for sure, but i heard the same as you that some are nice and some aren't. I would still try the Ocean Shores one but i think if it turned out bad, i would just give up in BW lol.
