Do you like cop shows with lots of drama and suspense? I have been watching and recording a new TNT drama called Memphis Beat. Now when i seen the pilot i have to admit i was about 70/30 on liking it. There was just something about it that wasn’t pulling me in 100%. The second episode was a little better and so on. Now tonight’s was great! I was so drawn in on who the abductor was that i didn’t see it coming at all.
I wasn’t sure how well i would like this show but i have to admit, 3 episodes into it, i now have it recording the series in case i miss one. The only negative feedback i have to give is that some of these characters need to give more “believable” feeling into their roles. Sometimes things that say are hard to see someone in that position saying for real. I know these actors have it in them since both Jason lee and DJ Qualls are 2 great comedy leaders. So perhaps going into a more serious setting will take some time. Not sure. But either way, i will still be watching Memphis Beat.
Check out Memphis Beat every Tuesday at 10/9 central.
Clip below is from the Pilot episode: “It’s Alright Mama”
Dwight offers his new boss, Lt. Tanya Rice, a little advice about managing the team.
Memphis Beat centers on Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee), a quirky Memphis police detective with an intimate connection to the city, a passion for blues music and a close relationship with his mother. He is “the keeper of Memphis,” a Southern gentleman who is protective of his fellow citizens, reverential of the city’s history and deeply rooted in its blues music scene.
Despite his impeccable instincts as a detective, Dwight’s loose, relaxed style of police work rubs his demanding new boss, Lt. Tanya Rice (Alfre Woodard), the wrong way. But Dwight may eventually win her over to a Memphis state of mind, especially when he takes the stage at his favorite hangout to perform a legendary song or two.
