Learning Buffet CD Review & Giveaway

Newly released in June of this year is a new project entitled “Learning Buffet” by William Avery of Yummy Snack Productions (www.yesnack.com).  Your kids will enjoy a smorgasbord of learning while bopping along to these hip hop inspired tunes.

About William Avery and his latest project: Learing Buffet is a combination of many life experiences and inspirations.  “Although heavily influenced by hop hip, I studied violin from 4th grade until college. I always played piano by ear, remembering progressions if I liked the flow. I don’t really feel like I play the piano. I feel like the piano plays me as I express feelings and moods through it. A friend taught me a jazz c scale in college and I have been applying that theory intermixed with much of my style. Since completing studies at Washington and Lee majoring in East Asian Studies and Computer Science, I worked overseas in Taiwan teaching English as a second language for about 10 years. The time spent in Taiwan teaching English opened many opportunities for me to write songs for children. After returning back to the States, I focused on computers and still continued to compose music as a hobby. Computer skills have helped me in setting up my website at www.yesnack.com. My latest release, Learning Buffet is a hearty mix of stories, oodles of educational themes and phonics drills. It is like a super sized combo-meal of stories, phonics and educational themes marinating in jazz, hip hop, funk, blues and pop.”

What you will find on the CD: 32 songs focused on learning!  Your kids will learn things like the 50 state capitals, the American presidents, the 8 planets, 206 bones in the body, Mandarin Chinese and more… all in tune to some funky, fun beats.  My absolute favorite is the bones song.  These lyrics are easy to remember and set to such a catchy beat that it sticks with me all day!

206 Bones

by William Avery ©2010
206 bones in my body. Each one is very unique.
54 bones are in my hands. There are 52 bones in my feet.
6 bones are in my arms. There are 8 bones in my legs.
26 bones are in my spine. There are 28 bones in my head.
1 sternum, 1 hyoid, 24 ribs. Almost done.
4 bones are in my shoulders. 2 hip bones in my bum.
Add them all up. 206 bones make me complete.
206 bones in my body. Each one is very unique.

My Thoughts: Overall my kids really enjoyed the CD.  They danced, laughed, sang and even learned some things!  My oldest daughter’s favorite is the American Presidents and my youngest can’t decide between 206 Bones and My Good Friend (Learn Chinese).  Your kids will most likely love the rap, chant, hip hop with a little jazz style that makes the lyrics pretty easy to remember and will probably be most popular with kids up to age 8 or so.  Click here and go listen for yourself!

Where to Buy: Learning Buffet is available for download from digstation.com, cdbaby.com, iTunes or in CD form for $12.28.
