Jennifer Taylor Meiswinkel is the president and founder of Smart Girls Who Surf and Surf-Vival, natural sun care brands based in Laguna Beach, California.

After graduating from college with a degree in International Relations and Political Science, Jennifer worked on Capitol Hill and later in event management and sales. She was living in San Francisco when she and her husband decided to move to Laguna Beach. With two young children and the beach just minutes away, Jennifer found herself outside every day struggling to keep her kids safe from the sun’s harmful rays and trying to avoid the hassle of stinging eyes and sticky sunscreen.

Jennifer bought Smart Girls Who Surf from a family friend and spent a year reformulating the products to be chemical- and paraben-free, hoping to develop sunscreens and after-sun lotions that were both healthy and eco-friendly. During this extensive period of research and development, Jennifer was appalled to learn that many of the active chemicals used in commercial sunscreens are dangerous to both humans and the environment—and, due to the excessive amount of sunscreen used by beach-goers, an over-abundance of these chemicals was already beginning to disrupt the ocean’s eco-system.

Under Jennifer’s direction, Smart Girls Who Surf and Surf-Vival SPF 30+ sunscreens use active ingredients Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, which are naturally-occurring minerals that act as a barrier on top of skin, blocking penetration of the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. The sunscreens also contain vitamins and Green Tea extract to help nourish and replenish the skin while protecting it. All Smart Girls Who Surf and Surf-Vival products are made and packaged here in the USA.

Currently, Smart Girls Who Surf and Surf-Vival provide earth-friendly products for men, women and children, including SPF 30 Sunblocks, Organic SPF 32 Face Sticks, After Sun Soothing Lotion, SPF 20 Tinted Moisturizer, Care For Hair Sun Protector, all-natural glycerin Soaps for Surfers, SPF 15 Lip Balms a Grab-N-Go Travel Kit, Sun Savvy Kit and a Surf-Vival Kit.
