Fathers Day: King of Shaves Review and Giveaway

I recently received the items in the above photo for review.  First I would like to share a little about the company:

Founded in 1993, KMI (short for Knowledge & Merchandising Inc. Ltd.) evolved into the UK’s largest owner or licensor of premium mass FMCG toiletries and fine fragrance brands. King of Shaves shaving ‘software’ was the first of these brands…

Run by Will King (Founder, CEO) and Herbie Dayal (Chairman), the company employs approximately 50 people, from offices in Beaconsfield and Teddington in the UK and New York in the USA.

If you want to find out how to have the perfect shave, head over to the King of Shaves website and watch one of the two videos that demonstrate how to get that great close shave.

The products that we received for review are the  Azor Hybrid Synergy System Razor (RRP $8.99), Advanced Shaving Gel (RRP $5.99),  Alphagel Shave Gel Cooling Menthol (RRP $5.99), AlphaOil Shave Oil Cooling Menthol (RRP $5.99).

The Azor Hybrid Synergy System Razor:

The new Azor hybrid synergy system razor by King of Shaves. Pure in form, effortless in function and engineered without compromise, King of Shaves Azor defines shaving simplicity. Important: Enjoy!

TST (Touch Skin Technology) Reflex Living Hinge presses blades firmly yet comfortably onto skin for a super close shave.

Endurium coated blades stay sharper for much longer.
Unique hybrid synergy design minimizes carbon footprint.

Our Thoughts: My husband and I both looked at the razor when we first pulled it out of the package and weren’t quite sure that it would work.  The razor is completely straight, so unlike any that we have seen.  I was a little worried that he would have quite a few nicks when he was done shaving.  Not to worry though since the razor bends with the contours of your face.  It actually is quite comfortable to hold and use and gives you a nice close shave (yes, I tried it out too).  The features my husband especially liked is that it covers a larger area than the razor he was using, which means that he could finish quicker with fewer passes needed and it gave him a close shave without irritation.  It gave him a very nice smooth feeling (nick free) shave.

The Shave Gels: King of Shaves Azor® Advanced Shaving Gel utilises SSE,™ v5.0 of our unique Skin Surface Enhancing technology, to deliver our best shave ever with ALS2 (Advanced Lubrication System) and mDDS™ (micro Dual Delivery System) that helps protect, moisturise and lubricate your skin throughout the shave giving superlative razor performance and glide. Your face will be left amazingly smooth, supple and moisturised.

• This unique black gel with MME (Micro-Magnetically Enhanced) particles help the gel ‘stick’ to the blade throughout the shave.
• Dermatologically tested and unfragranced. Ideal for sensitive skin.
• The naturally derived low foam, paraben free formula with cooling menthol means you see where you’re shaving – ideal for shaping facial hair and avoiding problem areas.
• Partner with the Azor razor. Shave closer, longer, for less!

Our Thoughts: As with most things, my husband and I do not agree on the best style of product for shaving.  I am a gel girl all the way and he is a total foam guy!  He likes the shaving cream to foam up to super size before slathering it all over his face – personally I don’t see how he can see what he’s doing with all that foam in the way.  So I was curious to see how he would like the shaving gels…  he said they were fine, which had me sputtering my way into a lecture on how he has to give me multiple words to use for my review – not just “fine”!  He tried harder… “Well you know how much I like the foam, but this worked very well and I can’t think of anything about it that wasn’t good.”  However, he will be sticking with the foam.  I on the other hand LOVE the gel and am glad that I get to claim them for myself!  I love the cooling menthol with the green tea, but the black gel is unique and wonderful too!  The scent of both types of gel was very nice and it leaves my legs feeling soft without drying them out!  I will definitely be seeking these out on my future shopping trips and also I will be looking for the womans version!

King of Shaves AlphaOil™ Shave Oil with cooling menthol employs SSE,™ v2.0 of our unique Skin Surface Enhancing technology, to protect, moisturise and lubricate your skin throughout the shave giving excellent razor performance and glide. Your face will be left smooth, supple and moisturised. Up to 100 shaves from one bottle. Use on its own instead of gel or foam, underneath a gel / foam or pre-electric. Dermatologically tested and unfragranced. Ideal for sensitive skin. The totally clear formula means you see exactly where you’re shaving – perfect for shaping sideburns, goatees and for avoiding problem areas.

Our Thoughts: I was really interested to see how my husband would react to an oil, which I imagine is about the furthest you can get from a foam!  He looked at the bottle and then set it aside thinking it was something to apply after he was done shaving.  He was quite surprised to find out that it is an oil to use while you are shaving.  This felt quite strange to him to apply and use an oil.  However, he felt that it worked really well and liked that you didn’t even have to wash it off when you are done – just wipe and go!  He thought it was an easy to use product that was fun to try out.  It works surprisingly well for a close shave!
