CarMD Review & Giveaway
Have you ever started your car and immediately noticed the check engine light was on? If you are like me, my first thought is “when I am going to find time to bring my car in to get checked out?” I recently found a great device called CarMD to help when that pesky engine light comes on.

The mission of CarMD.com is to empower consumers and the vehicle market by providing them with the tools and information needed to make educated decisions about vehicle health and maintenance. Our products employ the latest technologies that help everyone access and decipher vehicle diagnostic information using simple, quick and accurate methods.

This powerful tool delivers the information and peace of mind you’ve always wanted to diagnose and maintain your vehicle. CarMD uses the same basic technology that mechanics have always had, but costs less and can be operated by anyone.
We’ve combined years of automotive expertise and Internet accessibility to help you enjoy the confidence and peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re in control.
The CarMD tester works on any 1996 and newer car, light truck, minivan and/or SUV for the life of your vehicle. The red, yellow and green indicator lights help you instantly diagnose the health of your, your family’s, even your neighbor’s vehicles. For example, the CarMD tester can help you to:
- Catch any hidden vehicle engine problems before taking a road trip
- Identify if a Check Engine warning light indicates an immediate repair or if it can wait until the next service interval
- Gain valuable insight of the necessary repairs, parts and costs before arriving at their local repair shop
- Verify if your vehicle is ready for a State required emissions test
- Examine a used car before buying
- And much more…
Retails for $98.99.
My take: This product could not have come at a better time for me. My car recently had the check engine light on so we took it to local store and ran the diagnostic testing. Of course the check engine light is back on so my husband was thrilled at the opportunity to review the CarMD tester. The CarMD handheld tester was very easy to use. We did run into a slight problem with the software but it was quickly fixed. Two warnings…the system needs your VIN number which is long and of course confusing when you can’t tell if it’s the letter O or the number zero. I also have Vista and the software that was sent didn’t work with my computer. No worries though since the company has the newest downloads available on their site.
We of course knew there was a problem since we had the check engine light on. In less than 60 seconds the hand held tester had a diagnostic code for us. Once we got the software to work, we hooked the tester to a USB cable and the computer. The site not only told us what was possibly wrong but also gave us an estimated cost of repair.
I like knowing that when we get ready for long car trips we can quickly hook the CarMD up and make sure the car is ready to go. Peace of mind goes a long way for me! I also like that the Car MD tester has its very own case so I can store it in my glove compartment.
