Sealed Mindset (Updated) Review & Giveaway

When I was offered the chance to review an online personal safety course called 15 Seconds to Safety from Sealed Mindset, I had to seriously consider if I had enough time between working full time and reviews to take on this kind of a time commitment. But I checked out the information about the course in detail and decided that this was definitely something that I should invest my time in. How could I say no to something that could potentially help me keep my family out of danger?
One of my biggest fears is to have something happen to one of my children. I tend to be on the overprotective side of parenting simply because I want to be sure that I am always protecting my children whenever possible. So the information provided to me about this course intrigued me.
I think Anne Yatch, Vice President, Director of Operations of Sealed Mindset explains the course best:
“To give you a bit more information about the Sealed Mindset online, self-paced personal safety and awareness curriculum, I need to explain the difference between specific skills and fundamental knowledge:
If I teach you how to defend yourself against a punch thrown by an attacker, you would now have a specific skill that you could use. If someone threw a punch at you, through training you would be able to see that punch coming and then be able to physically defend yourself against the attack.
Yet, if that same attacker tried to choke you from behind, your specific knowledge of how to defeat a punch would be of no use. Also, with a specific skill, you would need to constantly practice the punching skills you initially learned to be effective each day.
OR, I can teach you the fundamental knowledge of how to observe people and classify them as non-threats, possible threats, or actual threats to your safety. I can illustrate what to look for in their hands, eyes and posture. I can allow you to see how those characteristics work with a person’s intent and your situation so that you begin to make assessments subconsciously. That is an example of fundamental knowledge – this is the type of knowledge that changes the way you look at the world, giving you tools you can apply to any life situation.
I knew from my past in Counterterrorism that this type of fundamental knowledge, the knowledge that allowed us to observe, assess and to avoid threats while traveling in the worst spots in the world was key to addressing every person’s concern for a complete personal safety solution. This fundamental knowledge is what makes our training different from all others.”
The course is set up with 10 individual lessons and should take about 11 weeks to complete. The course is well written, easy to understand and even entertaining. It captured my interest right away and after the first lesson I was already finding myself thinking about the information I was learning and using my new found understanding and knowledge to view the world around me (and myself) differently.
So far I am not quite half way through the courses, but I would like to share some of what I have learned up to this point. You start out by examining your own personal narrative and learn how your history effects or limits your ability to observe the world around you. Once you understand that the program helps you to develop your own protective mantra. You learn how to reactivate and use your peripheral vision as an asset for your own safety and are given different exercises to help you do this.
One of the things that had the biggest impact on me was the discussion about denial. All of us tend to want to deny that there is evil in this world and even close to us, even when we see it on a daily basis all around us. I once had a friend that told me that she did not believe there was evil. She believed in forces of good, but that evil did not exist. Over the years I have thought of this statement often and wondered how if she does not believe in evil, does she protect herself from it. I shook my head at that statement then, and it still baffles me now. As this course teaches you, if you deny that there is evil then you will always be relying on someone else to protect you.
Even more importantly is that this course teaches you how to recognize danger, how to see it, without losing focus on those you are wanting to protect.
Let me give you an example… while I am sitting at my computer typing this I can see my daughter changing her clothes and I can see that she just put her pants on backwards, at the same time I can see my husband ripping apart raffle tickets and placing them in a bowl so my daughter can draw a winner, I can see golf on the television and even that the guy just came close to getting his ball in the whole, I can see the dog rolling around on the floor on the other side of where I am sitting and I can see the message light blinking on my phone. Out the window to the side of me I can see a squirrel up on top of the grill and rain splashing in a puddle in our yard. All of this is happening actually faster than I can type (and I am a pretty fast typist), but I am able to take it all in while remaining focused on what I am doing here. Before starting 15 Seconds to Safety I would have been solely focused on my computer screen and would not have noticed or taken in anything else around me.
My Thoughts: I am fascinated by this course so far and am looking forward to what else I will be learning. I will be back to update you in a couple of weeks, once I have had time to finish a few more lessons. So far I have found the knowledge that I have gained to be well worth the time spent completing the courses and believe it will be valuable to me in keeping myself and my kids safe from dangerous situations in the future (and I don’t have to learn how to uppercut someones nose – although also good to know).
UPDATE 2/27: I have completed a bit more of the lessons and am very impressed with this training so far. I believe this is something every mom should take the time to do! Anything that can help you view the world with more awareness and expand your mind in way that may save you and your family from danger is absolutely worth the time it takes to learn about it! Please check out Sealed Mindset and take the free lesson – you never know when this knowledge may save someone you love!

I learned that this should change my own mindset so hopefully I can avoid situations instead of trying to defend against them
More than anything I think I really like the fact that it is so important to be aware of your surroundings. If you’re more observant and alert to what is going on around you, you may be able to avoid potentially dangerous situations by not getting near them in the first place.
The Sealed Mindset web-based learning system, accessible at any time from within the comfort of your home, teaches you the fundamental knowledge and skill necessary to AVOID situations that could require a self-defense solution.

i find this stuff fascinating. i was diagnosed with PTSD after some muggers nearly killed my mom in front of me 1.5 years ago – ever since then i know there is evil out there. it is misdirected values, it is selfish people, lack of love, etc. to be blind to it is to put yourself at risk – something i have learned from my own experiences is that there are PLENTY of people just waiting to take advantage of you, one way or another. you have to be smarter than them by being smart to their ways. i actually have trained myself to be hyper-aware all the time, always on the lookout for potential pedophiles when i am with my son, nasty people that might push us in front of the train, etc etc. i mean, really, just yesterday 3 people stabbed each other nearly to death right next to my building. you just never know.

i watched the video… i learned Lieutenant Yatch is pretty hot!
and though i noticed a LOT of other things on the video than the spinning woman, i still need to be more aware…! dangit, am i not paranoid enough?!

I think it is everyone’s best interest to be more aware of their surroundings. With all the technology of cellphones, web on demand, it seems no one is even looking around anymore.
