CITRACAL_PLUS_HEART_HEALTH

Over the past three months you have heard me talking about the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy body, you’ve heard me talking about eating a healthy diet rich in fresh whole foods and also about making sure you keep your body properly hydrated.  But we can’t stop there – we can’t forget about keeping our bones healthy!

Every year when I visit my doctor she asks me if I am taking a Calcium supplement and reminds me how important it is “at my age” to make sure that I remember to take a daily calcium supplement.  Her recommendation came to mind when I came across the new Citracal Calcium + D PLUS Heart Health.  I thought it would be perfect to add to our 2010 Start Off Healthy campaign!

CITRACAL_PLUS_HEART_HEALTH_Straight_on_Hi_Resolution_600_dpiFirst lets start off with the reason why including a calcium supplement is so important.  Calcium offers many health benefits like working towards regulating your heartbeat and aiding in building and maintaining healthy bones. It is absolutely necessary to take calcium as a supplement or make sure you are eating the recommended amount in your food, because the body does not make calcium on its own.  Additionally, it is vital to consume calcium everyday, since the body continuously looses calcium.  In the absence of adequate calcium in the body, the body will use the calcium that is present in your bones to carry out other bodily functions, leaving the bones weakened.  This leads to Osteoporosis – something that can be prevented by providing your body with the calcium it needs!

Citracal’s Calcium is in the form of calcium citrate, which is water soluble and easier to be absorbed in your body aided by the addition of the Vitamin D.  It doesn’t stop there thought, this newest addition to their Calcium Supplement line includes the addition of Phytosterols.

There has been a lot of promising research on phytosterols which have been found to stop or slow absorption of dietary cholesterol and cholesterol made by the liverTry a quick goggle search and you will find a lot of good information about phytosterols and the current findings in helping to reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol.

Obviously I am not a doctor, my review is just my opinion and my understanding through conversations with my own doctor and my own internet research.  However, I strongly believe that it is important for us to take a calcium supplement and to find one that you trust.  I feel fully confident in the Citracal Calcium + D PLUS Heart Health which is backed by Bayer, the world leader in innovative health care.

I learned that calcium citrate produces not one, but two different calcium delivery vehicles, and each of them uses a different path into the bloodstream.
