Trim&Terrific Review and Giveaway

I am all about cooking…I love it, but I am busy because I also cook for $$$ in my evenings. Sometimes I am so busy outside of the home my family is left to fend for themselves , thank goodness for a very loving husband and some frozen pizzas. Until now.

I was able to review Freezer Friendly Meals, Trim&Terrific by Holly Clegg (signed copy). These recipes are quick, healthy, and able to be made in advance. They are also not your typical make this freeze casserole or lasagna. You can totally make a 4 course meal! I thought I knew a lot about meal prep, but boy was I wrong. My very favorite section of this cookbook is the freezing Facts and Guide. She lets you know what will freeze well and what won’t how to fix stuff and the best ways to freeze things. Did you know that Pork will only last about 8 months in the freezer…not forever! Yikes!!!

This book really is awesome. It is spiral bound so opening a page and having it stay open is easy and the cover is hardcover with the spirals on the inside completely protected. I know crazy to be impressed with construction of a book, but sitting on the board of a recipe committee, this is seriously well thought construction for a ready to use every day cookbook. There are approx 325 pages in this book and every section is well indexed so you can see all the recipes in that section for easy selection. She covers it all here appetizers, muffins, pies, meats…all categorized. Every recipe has directions on how to prepare now, freeze, and prepare after freezing.
If you are a busy mom, working woman, man of the house…You can benefit from this superb cookbook. These meals are flavorful and healthy so you won’t know they are good for you. That’s what we all need right? I personally am seeing the benefits of her quick and flavorful meals in the compliments I have received. It isn’t easy for me to give it all up, but healthier eating is taking it’s toll on me.I have lost over 30 lbs this year and have been able to enjoy food again with these great recipes.
Holly Clegg also has a new blog, The Healthy Cooking Blog. She shares her personal stories about recipes like in her kid section. She also has a section called Holly’s Happenings, her you can see what she is entertaining with and what she does with her leftovers! Recipes are catagorized and searching is simple as pie. You can also stay up to date on the fun things happening and new recipes by becoming a fan on Facebook
We also reviewed Kids Cooking for Mommies. So much fun! My kids love to help and cook and sometimes I don’t have the patients. Kids should have the proper tools to prepare them for leaving the nest. This book is a building tool for that. Holly has it in the bag on this one. My kids have learned how to shop for food, how to prepare it and they can do a lot of the things themselves now without me hanging over them worried about what mess it will cause (it’s still a mess, but it makes sense). You can also freeze things from this book too.
Here is what Holly Clegg has to say:
More than recipes, the Kitchen Wonderland chapter provides insight on ways Mommies can transform kitchens into child-friendly environments and help children understand the importance of nutrition.
“Rainbow Recipes was my favorite part of KIDS COOKING for Mommies –teaching kids to consider the color of foods is one way we might encourage our younger generation to eat healthy,” Clegg says.
“While taking Mom out to dine would be the ideal, in this economy families are taking another look at home-cooking,” Clegg adds. “KIDS COOKING for Mommies was expressly created for busy families.”
I know I have already started to prepare my New Years spread…what are we having? Glad you asked. Almond Glazed Brie, Empanadas, Stuffed Crab Poblano Peppers, Meaty Biscuit Cups…Mouth watering yet? Banana Blueberry muffins, Two Minute Banana Tiramisu…Just a day of snacking! Everything can be frozen and thawed. If you could see the pictures in the book you would be right on over to join in…
