Tempur-Pedic Review
We have all mostly likely seen the commercials for the comfortable Tempur-pedic mattresses. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wanted to do what the woman in the commercial does – place a glass of red wine on one corner of the bed, then stand on the opposite corner of the bed and start walking toward the glass. Sadly, I still have yet to do my own red wine walking test, but Tempurpedic still let me do a little material test of my own.

Tempurpedic sent me a box test of four different types of popular mattress materials: latex, memory-foam, Tempur and Tempur-HD material. You can see from the pictures below that each material was represented with the same size square sample. To test each material, I simply held a small metal ball about a foot and a half above each sample and dropped it onto the sample material. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I’ll let you see the results for yourself.
The Latex Material:

As you can see from this picture, the metal ball bounces high up in the air after it’s dropped. This is why kids become airborne when jumping on the bed – there is little to no support or shock-absorbing material for your body. This is also why your significant other wakes up as you toss and turn during the night, or vice versa! [The metal ball is blurry in the picture above because I took this pic before I changed the shutter settings on my camera. The ball shows up clearer in the next few pictures.]
The Memory Foam Material:

Though not as dramatic as the latex material, the metal ball still bounced back in the air after hitting the memory foam material. The foam provides more support than the latex material, but still not enough to absorb all the shock from a metal ball.
The Tempur-pedic and HD Materials:

You are probably looking at this picture wondering why I didn’t use a picture where I captured the ball bouncing back in the air. The plain and simple fact is that the ball does not bounce back at all when it lands on the Tempur or Tempur-HD materials. It simply hits the Tempur-pedic material with a faint thud noise and makes a little nest for itself where it landed. I didn’t believe it the first time I dropped the metal ball on the Tempur-material so I repeatedly dropped the ball over and over, each time yielding the same results. I don’t have a picture of this, but to really put it to the test, I threw the metal ball into the Tempurpedic material. Still surprised, the little metal ball nestled right into the material without bouncing at all! The only difference between dropping and throwing the ball was with throwing the ball, the thud as it hit the Tempur material was louder.
I showed this fun test to a few family and friends who all showed the same astounded reaction! After this test, we were all ready to go find ourselves Tempur-pedic mattresses. The only one who preferred the latex materials after this test was my cat (who only liked the latex because the ball bounced back, making it a fun game!) Of course, after I put my camera away she started climbing in the box and batting the metal ball around! Where’s the camera when you need it? This is her rubbing on the Tempur-box:

Memory foam is the greatest material ever for sleeping on. I never get tired of telling folks about the benefits of it.
Thank you for a really fun and visually entertaining article.
