Swissmar Kitchen Utensils Review

Convenience in the kitchen is imperative to most moms; whether we’re talking about cooking and baking, washing dishes, or even feeding the dog. No matter what the task at hand, we all want to get the job done in the most efficient, effective way possible.

Luckily, Swissmar developed some time-saving, cost-effective, handy kitchen utensils. They sent me a couple to review, starting with the set of three vegetable peelers. Each peeler serves a different function in the kitchen: the yellow-handled scalpel, the red-handled serrated, and the green-handled julienne peelers. I started off by testing the classic serrated peeler with a small bushel of apples. The best thing about these peelers is the ease of use. With my old peeler I would tire after peeling a couple apples, but with Swissmar’s peeler I whizzed right through all the apples in no time.

Swissmar Peelers

Next up was the julienne peeler. I’ve never used one of these peelers prior to testing Swissmar’s so I wasn’t exactly prepared for my excited response. The blade on the julienne will separate your vegetable into thin strips instead of the thinker sheet yielded by the serrated peeler. I used the julienne peeler on some carrots which perfectly topped my salad! Who would have ever thought that peeling a carrot would make me laugh?

Finally, I gained the courage to try the scalpel peeler on a beautiful tomato. I am a tomato lover inside and out, so it’s unheard of for me to try to alter a tomato in any fashion. I was again pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to remove the tomato’s skin. Of course I only did a few swipes with the peeler because I prefer tomatoes with skin when I use them to top my salads.

Swissmar Spachello

Swissmar also sent the Spachello – Slice and Spread knife. This is a very fun utensil to use on many different foods! The Spachello is essentially a two-in-one tool: a fully serrated knife on one edge and a spatula on the other edge for spreading. I first tried the Spachello with a bagel and cream cheese. It sliced through the bagel without any issue, but the spatula side of the knife had a little difficulty with the cream cheese. I suspect the Spachello is best used with softer spreadable foods such as jams, mayonnaise, or mustard and ketchup. With all aspects considered, it’s a great utensil (though it is a sharp knife on one side so not recommended for children to use when making their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches).

About the Author

My name is Megan and I’m a unique reviewer for Mommy PR – I don’t have any kids yet, but one day I hope to. The majority of my days are spent at my 9 to 5 day job and I spend most of my evenings in culinary school! In September 2012 I will graduate as a pastry chef. Even though work and school consume most of my time, I enjoy spending any and all free time in the kitchen baking up something delicious and fattening. My other favorite activies include traveling and working out.
