Schwan’s Review and FREE item under $10

When I was young my parents would mark the calendar for the day the “Schwan’s man” would visit. It was as excited as seeing the ice cream truck roll by my house. My sister and I knew our parents were loading up the freezer with good food for the next month!

It’s been years since I’ve seen the “Schwan’s man” pull up outside the house but I still remember the excitement of seeing the Schwan’s truck each month. I contacted Schwan’s and they generously agreed to a review of a few of their yummy food products. It was all a surprise to me as to what I was going to receive, so when I saw the Schwan’s cooler sitting on my doorstep, I tore into it like a little kid on Christmas morning!

Packed neatly in a styrofoam cooler amidst chunks of dry ice to keep all the food frozen, I pulled out a carton of Confetti Cake ice cream, Lasagna in meat sauce, Pork filet in garlic and herb marinade, and mini corn dogs! By that point I was practically jumping up and down with excitement. I opened the ice cream immediately, thinking that I’d be able to sneak a spoonful or two before I had to put it away. But the dry ice had done such a great job of keeping it frozen while sitting on my front doorstep, it was too hard for me to dig a spoon into! Bravo to Schwan’s for keeping my food frozen on a hot day!

The next day, I set the ice cream out for a few minutes then scooped myself a bowl. I’m no kid but I loved this ice cream! It’s vanilla with blue swirls, confetti colored sprinkles, and chunks of white cake mixed in. Oh yummy! This was the first thing I tried and the first thing to disappear, haha!

Next, I tried the mini corn dogs. Now, who doesn’t love a corn dog? To have mini corn dogs without sticks is perfection! Although, I probably eat more than the serving suggestion on the label says I’m supposed to eat in one serving. Like the ice cream, the corn dog nuggets are highly recommended!

I held off on cooking the lasagna for a few days because it was in a large box so I assumed it was one massive pan of lasagna you just pop in the oven. To my excitement, I opened the box to find 4 individual servings packed in their own box. For someone who works in an office all day, 4 individual boxes was perfect for me! I’ve already chowed down two of the boxes and plan to consume the third box today!

Finally, there is the pork filet with garlic and herb marinade. I’d love to tell you that I tried it and loved it as much as all three other Schwan’s products I’ve reviewed, but unfortunately I’m not a big fan of pork. I did, however, read all about the preparation of the pork and take a good look at it contemplating if I’d get over my distaste of pork for the sake of a review. But alas, I put it back in the freezer and decided I’d save it for when company comes over. There are two large filets that would serve between 4-5 each. The preparation and serving instructions seem very simple, but when served with a few fancier sides would make for a delightfully formal meal. Of course, if you’re looking to serve to kids, pair it with some mashed potatoes and you’ll have plenty for a family dinner plus enough for leftovers the next day, too!
