Pipila Portable Pacifier Sterilizer Review
My 17 month old is in love with his pacifier. I am a little apprehensive because I wasn’t able to successfully take my 3 1/2 year old’s away until just 6 months ago. I recently found a great product called Pipila, a portable pacifier sterilizer, produced in the US by a company called Hygiene Innovations. First a little about Hygiene Innovations:

Pipila was developed in Australia by a dental hygiene company to respond to the increased concern worldwide about germs and hygiene, particularly when babies are concerned. It was researched and developed by a Nick Roiniotis.
Chrisoula Doulas, who has been involved in the dental hygiene profession in the USA for over 20 years has now brought Pipila to the USA with her company Hygiene innovations, Inc.
We feel that improved hygiene and control of germs has become a major focus in many different product categories – antibacterial soap and antibacterial wipes are good examples. For years parents would give their babies’ a pacifier without thinking about the fact that they can pick up germs and provide a breeding ground for harmful microbes.
Moreover, because babies’ immune systems deteriorate to 35% of the level at birth in the first three months of life and then slowly recover to 55% at 18 months, they are extremely vulnerable to infection and illness during that period. Consumers, and child caregivers especially, are becoming much more conscious of cleanliness and sanitation issues, and this product directly addresses those concerns.
What is Pipila? Unlike other units on the market, using Pipila to sanitize your pacifier does not change the shape of the nipple or leave residual smells peculiar taste on the nipple. Furthermore, Pipila is compact and portable enabling you to take it wherever you go!
Pipila is a compact, portable pacifier sterilizer that was developed in Australia. It kills up to 99.9% of germs on a pacifier and operates on two AAA batteries, so it can be used anywhere and it’s compact enough to fit easily in a diaper bag, for example. Pipila accommodates all standard-size baby pacifiers and the cleaning process takes just five minutes from start to finish.
Using a patented UV/O3 (ozone) lamp, Pipila functions to kill up to 99.9% of germs residing on the pacifier. It comes in 3 colors: red, yellow, and blue and each retails for $29.99. Pipila can be purchased on amazon.com or drugstore.com
My take: We are always on the go and I hate just washing the “paci” (as we call it around our house) with soap and water. I never feel it is truly clean. The Pipila is one of the simplest inventions I have ever used. You need to insert 2 AAA batteries before the 1st use then open the lid, inset the pacifier (teat down), depress the chamber to activate, and close the lid. It takes about 6 minutes to sterilize and you know it is completed when the lamp switches off. Now I waited until one pacifier was especially dirty so I could test the Pipila out. After 6 minutes the pacifier looked new, no cloudy appearance and no funky smells. The big test came when the 17 month old popped it into his mouth. He never paused a beat, just kept right on with his business. I now take the Pipila everywhere…I store it in my purse so we can use it whenever he drops the paci on a public floor such as the grocery store or the park. A big thumbs up from me!

Sounds pretty neat! Although i never gave either of my kids a pacifier past the age of two months(so i wouldn’t have to break them from it later!) this would have been nice to have around. I use to boil mine when i would do the bottles. They always turned white it seems! My kids are 18 and 12 now and they have so many neat things out now for babies! Sometimes i feel like my kids were ripped off! lol
