Nikon CoolPix P90- Final Week

cool

I am just going to roll all the rest of the pictures into one posting today for 2 reasons.. 1) I burnt my finger so bad i can not type too well LOL, and 2) I sadly have to return the camera soon.

Before we get to the pictures let me say that this camera has been awesome. Its extreme zoom, the way the LCD pops out in different angles, the fine attention to detail on any photo. It has been an amazing ride to sample and test this extraordinary camera. The specifications are out of this world for a non-SLR camera. But yet they are so close to being there, that it could easy surpass some of your friends “professional” pictures. The price is is affordable for what you get (Hint- Sears has it and you can do layway there!!)

I have all of my readers to thank for this journey, you all left the best and most encouraging feedback. Special thanks to Alicia ( you know who you are) for helping me learn what Aperture was and walking me thru each setting. And a big Thank you to Nikon for allowing me this crazy chance.

I have to also point out that the manual this camera comes with is one of the best for people who know diddly squat. It really walks you thru and explains things in what i call “blonde terms” (i can safely say that because im a blonde LOL) Here are the specs:

  • 24x Zoom-NIKKOR lens with focal range from 26mm wide-angle to 624mm super-telephoto
  • 3-in. vari-angle LCD with anti-reflection coating for greater framing freedom
  • 12.1 effective megapixels for high-resolution images
  • Image sensor shift VR image stabilization
  • Motion Detection for sharp, steady results
  • Advanced shooting modes including Programmed Auto [P], Shutter priority Auto [S], Aperture-priority Auto [A], and Manual [M]
  • High Sensitivity up to ISO 6400*1
  • Sport Continuous Mode enables shooting at up to 45 consecutive pictures*2 at 15 fps
  • Pre-shooting Cache option enables recording up to 10 frames just before releasing the shutter
  • Scene Auto Selector provides quick, carefree picture-taking in a variety of situations
  • Optimize image (including monochrome filter effect)
  • Distortion Control
  • Smart Portrait System – Face-priority AF, Smile Timer, Blink Warning, Blink Proof and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
  • Quick Retouch for the best balance of contrast and saturation
  • Active D-Lighting adds detail and optimizes exposure to rescue underexposed images while shooting

Heres the part where you say.. So Angela, would you recommend buying this camera?? — YES.

What i look for in my camera’s are ease of use, cost, how many nifty things they have (lol), Panorama (because i loveeee panoramic!), and style.

The Nikon Coolpix P90 has all of and some. Plus you get a step down from SLR for a low price.

I honestly have no downfalls on the camera. I will say that the editing software is a tad large, so it may freeze or slow your computer. BUT you do not have to use it anyways so don’t worry. {It is nice software though. I personally use Photoscape (Photoscape.org).}  Also if you buy this camera, i would get a nice bag for it. It handles the bumps and bruises, but try to keep it safer in a bag. I also purchased a lens cleaning kit, try to get a brush cleaner not the rag type. They retail for less than $5 at places like Walmart or Target. The camera bags can range in price from single digits to hundreds. Just personal preference on that one.

Well lets get on with the final pictures.

Some pictures are just slightly retouched. I used some basic contrast and sharpness.

Some are very enhanced.

my sister wanted this camera! I really like the how clear and crisp the photos are. A question: How does the camera do in dark settings such as a darker lit room or night time?

  6. MommyPR says:

@Natalie- It actually does wonderful. You can ajust the light intake so it pulls in as much light as it needs and then takes the picture. :-)

  7. WOW amazing. I wish I knew how to use my camera those pictures are amazing. I held the Nikon and so wanted to buy it but it looked too difficult for me to use.
    I sadly bought a CANON an d I’m still lost. :(
