J is for Jack-O’-Lantern: A Halloween Alphabet Review & Giveaway

jwin1!jwin2!jwin3!jwin4!jwin5!

Before we know it summer will have passed and fall will be here.  Of course along with fall comes the ever popular holiday of Halloween.  Sleeping Bear Press sent me a book to help prepare for the arrival of Halloween.  First a little bit about Sleeping Bear Press:

Since our first success with The Legend of Sleeping Bear (Official Children’s Book of Michigan) in 1998, Sleeping Bear Press has impressed young readers, parents, teachers and booksellers with high-quality, beautifully illustrated picture books. As a small regional publisher based in Chelsea, Michigan, we’re proud to say that readers throughout the country know us by name. Our authors and illustrators are visiting more schools and bookstores than ever before. Our books have inspired sterling reviews, won awards, have been featured in presentations and even found their way under the White House Christmas tree. No matter our size, our goal remains the same: Provide books that enrich children’s lives through stories that blend entertaining text with educational content.

Now, a decade after the publication of The Legend of Sleeping Bear, our list has continued to grow and expand. In addition to our widely known Discover America Sate-by-State series, we have more than six different series including our Tales of Young Americans and our newest series Tales of the World. We are extremely grateful to and proud of the gifted authors and illustrators who have helped us reach our 10th year in children’s publishing.

J is for Jack-O’-Lantern: A Halloween Alpahabet is releasing in August and filled with classic autumn games, jokes, history, and recipes (any one up for some gooey deviled egg eyeballs?) J is for Jack-O’-Lantern is an A-Z adventure celebrating all things that “go bump in the night.”

Poetry, prose, and delightful artwork, combine fun with just a touch of fright to create the perfect treat for boys and girls!  Written in the publisher’s two-tier format; poetry, prose,  and art offer something for readers of all ages and abilities.

My take:  Fall is my favorite season and the illustrations in this book are a perfect example of why.  Gorgeous fall colors are prevalent throughout this book.  I love that J is for Jack-O’-Lantern is a book for all ages.  My 16 month old loves to just look at the pictures, my 3 year old likes to hear the short explanation of what each letter is, and I love to read the more detailed descriptions found along the side of the pages.  Along with being extremely well-written this book has the added touch of adding cute games, jokes, and recipes perfect for autumn play.

J is for Jack-O’-Lantern: A Halloween Alphabet retails for $14.95 and appropriate for ages 4-10 (though my 2 younger boys also enjoyed it).

Sleeping Bear Press is generously offering 5 lucky MommyPR readers their very own J is for Jack -O’ -Lantern: A Halloween Alphabet Book!
