Full Count: A Baseball Number Book Review & Giveaway

My 3 yr old son just got finished playing his first year of wee-ball. I knew as soon as I opened my newest package from Sleeping Bear Press this book, Full Count, was going to be a big hit.  (See my review for its companion book H is for Homerun here)  First a little about the company:

Since our first success with The Legend of Sleeping Bear (Official Children’s Book of Michigan) in 1998, Sleeping Bear Press has impressed young readers, parents, teachers and booksellers with high-quality, beautifully illustrated picture books. As a small regional publisher based in Chelsea, Michigan, we’re proud to say that readers throughout the country know us by name. Our authors and illustrators are visiting more schools and bookstores than ever before. Our books have inspired sterling reviews, won awards, have been featured in presentations and even found their way under the White House Christmas tree. No matter our size, our goal remains the same: Provide books that enrich children’s lives through stories that blend entertaining text with educational content.

Now, a decade after the publication of The Legend of Sleeping Bear, our list has continued to grow and expand. In addition to our widely known Discover America Sate-by-State series, we have more than six different series including our Tales of Young Americans and our newest series Tales of the World.

As we celebrate our 10thAnniversary and our beginnings, we’re also looking at our future and remembering our ongoing mission: With the support of our parent company Gale Cengage, we are dedicated to producing distinctive children’s books with rich content. Books that benefit not only the children who love them but also the adults who read them aloud in schools, libraries, and to their families each night at bedtime.

Following his H is for Home Run: A Baseball Alphabet, Brad Herzog once again steps to the plate to bring the game of baseball to fans of every age. Using numbers as its backdrop, Full Count: A Baseball Number Book goes behind the batter’s box and into the dugout to explain game basics and showcase historic moments.

Starting with the signal for a fastball (1), to the miles-per-hour speed on some of the fastest pitches ever thrown (100+), Full Count counts out the players, the plays, and pulse-stopping moments in America’s favorite sport.

My Take:  My boys loved this book!  Especially the page about tee-ball.  I really liked how Full Count showcased both boys and girls playing ball.  The illustrations are eye-catching and I think everyone in the family (including my husband) learned facts about baseball that we didn’ t know.  The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that it counted from 1 to 10 and then skipped to 15, 20, 25, 50, 75, and then to 100 which was a little confusing to the 3 yr old who shouted out the number 11 after the 10th page.

Full Count: A Baseball Number Book Review retails for $17.95
