Annick Press: Nibbling on Einstein’s Brain Book Review

I love science books because I always learn something from them.  This next book review is from Annick Press, first a little about the company:

Annick Press is recognized as one of the most innovative and cutting-edge publishers of books for children and young adults.  True to its motto of ”Excellence and Innovation in Children’s Literature”, Annick Press is committed to creating dynamic, ground-breaking by Canadian and international authors.  We constantly strive to offer children and teens positive reading experiences that are self-affirming, educational, and entertaining.

I was given the chance to review a very neat book called Nibbling on Einstein’s Brain: the Good, the Bad, & the Bogus in Science.  (Don’t you just love the title?)

Science affects every part of our lives. It can determine the foods we eat, the clothes we wear even the video games we play. But how do you tell the good science from the bad?

Bite into NIBBLING ON EINSTEIN’S BRAIN and learn some winning strategies for sorting the good from the misleading in science. Through playful scenarios and fascinating real-world examples, each chapter encourages critical thinking. You’ll find tips for spotting bad science, ideas for identifying reports that misrepresent facts, and ways to keep your own brain from muddling the science news you receive.

Bursting with “Baloney Buster” information, quick “Your Turn” activities and playful new illustrations, this brightly redesigned edition, d with recent examples of suspicious science, offers a fun approach to becoming a sharp-minded watchdog of reliable science.

My take:  I really liked this book because it was informative, creative, and very easy to read.  Tough concepts such as analyzing research statistics are explained in a way that students of all ages can understand.  I took many a research class for physical therapy and I really wish I had this book to explain things.

My favorite aspect of this book is the stories and examples the author uses to help the reader understand concepts by using real world examples.  I believe this book is a must for all young budding scientists who want to learn the right way of exploring scientific research.

Nibbling on Einstein’s Brain retails for $12.95 and is recommended for ages 8 and up.
