Over the next several weeks I have the unique opportunity to introduce you to 6 products that I think you will love! The first product is called Space Sand. What is it? See the sensation that has been featured in countless media including Family Fun Magazine, and the Regis and Kelly Show. This amazing sand will not get wet—dump it in a glass of water, remove it with a spoon, and it will emerge completely dry! This sand is actually the closest thing to sand on Mars, and it is used in NASA Mars Exploration Classroom experiments.
My Take: I was sent the red Space Sand Header and it was of course the first thing my 3 year old wanted to try out. I had a feeling this may be a messy project so I covered the table with a towel. I took a clear glass bowl filled it with water and then dumped the sand in. We first noticed a silvery layer between the sand and the water. I gave the 3 yr old a spoon and told him to scoop some of the sand up and onto the paper towel. To both of our amazement as soon as the sand hit the air it turned into the dry sand we started out with! It was pretty neat. We of course had to do this oh 30 times or so before we could move onto the next step. We then played with the space sand underwater building towers and such. Both of us really had a great time with it. The best thing…we left it out on a paper towel to dry and then put it in the resealable bag to re-use. The worst thing…as you can imagine the mess a 3 yr old makes. It really didn’t take long to clean it up since I had a towel I just took it outside shook the sand out and threw the towel into the washing machine.
I really liked that on the back of this product’s package lists educational aspects you can discuss with an older child. For example did you know that Space Sand has been used to clean oil spills and is called “Oil Seeker” Sand?
Space Sand Headers are 2 oz and come in either red or neon colors. They retail for $2.99 . Space Sand also comes in buckets which are 5 pounds and come in a variety of colors. Buckets retail for $34.99.
